Sundays too(: 일요일을 포함하여 매일) my father got up early 일요일이면 아버지는 항상 일찍 일어나신다.

And put his clothes on in the blueblack(: 해가 뜨기 전 새벽) cold, → Synesthesia. 추위를 색으로 묘사한다. 

Then with cracked갈라진 hands that ached → 가난한 노동자임을 나타낸다. 

From labor in the weekday weather made → 아침 일찍 일어나 가족을 위해서 불을 피우고 집 안을 따뜻하게 데운다. 

Banked fires 매화 (埋火) blaze. No one ever thanked him.

 

I’d wake and hear the cold splintering 쪼개지다, 깨지다, breaking. → 화자는 추움이 가실 때 일어난다.

When the rooms were warm, he’d call,

And slowly I would rise and dress, → 아침 일찍 일어나 불을 피우는 아버지의 모습과 대조된다.

Fearing the chronic angers of that house, → Personification. 집이 분노의 감정을 가진다. ( 화목한 가정은 아님을 알 수 있다. )

 

Speaking indifferently to him, → 화자는 아버지에게 냉담하게 말한다. 앞에서 언급한 "chronic angers" 와 관련이 있을것이라고 추정할 수 있다. 

Who had driven out the cold 

And polished my good shoes as well. 추위를 몰아내고 + 신발을 닦아준다. → 아버지의 사랑이 담긴 행동이다. 

What did I know, what did I know

Of love’s austere 근엄한 and lonely offices? → 화자는 과거에 아버지의 사랑을 알아차리지 못한 점을 후회한다.
